The only place you're allowed to sleep inside the park.
Because camping and bivouacking are banned everywhere else inside the boundary, Chamanna Cluozza is the sole way to spend a night within the park itself. The hut sits deep in the Cluozza gorge, reached by a steep descent from the Zernez side — a genuinely demanding trail that's become one of the park's classic routes precisely because of what it makes possible.
The route
From the trailhead near Zernez, the path climbs before dropping steeply into the Cluozza gorge, losing significant elevation on the way down to the hut — elevation you then have to regain on the way back out. Along the way, the trail delivers a genuine high point: a deep, dramatic view straight down into the gorge itself, with chamois frequently visible on the opposite slopes.
Day hike or overnight
Strong walkers do the round trip in a long single day. Most visitors treat it as an overnight instead — reach the hut, sleep, and return the next morning, which turns a strenuous single push into two manageable days and leaves time to actually enjoy the gorge rather than racing the descent back to the trailhead before dark.
Booking the hut
Chamanna Cluozza is genuinely small and the only overnight option inside the park, so it fills up — book ahead, especially for weekends in July, August, and September. Expect dormitory-style hut accommodation with meals available, not private rooms.
